Town Manager's Duties

The Town of Middlebury has adopted a Town Manager form of government.  Under this form of government, the day-to-day responsibilities traditionally charged to the Selectboard are delegated to a professional manager appointed by the Board to act as the Chief Administrative Officer of the Town.  Duties include:

  • Developing and managing the annual budget
  • Creating and publishing Middlebury's Annual Town Report
  • Supervising Town Staff
  • Setting wages for non-union staff
  • Managing the maintenance and repair of Town buildings
  • Managing the Town's highways, water and sewer system, and other public infrastructure
  • Performing all dutes not committed to another office

The Town Manager also functions as Town's purchasing agent and delinquent tax collector.
